Can I use Roku’s own payment processing for PPV and Subscription Services?
Yes, you can. Just keep in mind that payment processing via Roku has some advantages and disadvantages:
- They charge between 30 and 50% - depending on the type of media and volume
- It only works for Roku users and is not connected to your users on other apps (such as your website, your mobile apps and your other ConnectedTV apps).
- Your Roku account needs to be approved for this service by Roku and that can take a while (2-3 months). It’s also not clear that you’ll be approved for PPV purchases by Roku.
- Depending on your requirements, building out your Roku App into a rental store which processes via Roku accounts can be quite an investment.
- You don’t receive contact details of your customers for follow-up and cross-marketing. You don’t own your subscribers and customers, Roku owns them.
