Tips Of The Week

Closed Captioning

Closed Captioning (CC), sometimes referred to as “Subtitles", is the process to display timed text overlays on a video screen. The Lightcast Web Players, as well as selected third-party video players, support this technology.

The most common and widely supported subtitle formats are SRT (Subrip) and WebVTT (Web Video Text Track). Both formats are supported by Lightcast and can be uploaded as a so-called “sidecar file" to your videos in your Media Cloud account. Today, we would like to point out two different ways you can upload subtitles to a video:

Uploading a Subtitle through the Video Editing Page: Using the “Video Archive” page within the “Media” section of your Media Cloud, you can use this option to upload subtitle files in multiple latin languages to each of your videos. More information can be found at: How to Upload and Assign Subtitles to a Video

Uploading a Subtitle through the Channels Manager: Allows you to upload subtitle files in multiple latin languages easily through your channels via the “Video On-Demand” page within the “Channels” section of your Media Cloud. More information can be found at: How to Upload and Assign Subtitles to a Video

Keep in mind that currently some App platforms only support latin languages such as English, Spanish, German, Italian etc. when uploaded as an SRT or VTT file. Non-Western/Latin languages might not be supported yet.
