SVOD = Subscription Video on Demand. It is a term used for a specific monetization strategy. Other monetization strategies are AVOD and TVOD, which will be covered in the following Tips of the Week.
The difference between these 3 monetization strategies is the way users are asked to pay for content.
SVOD is a type of service where your viewers enter into a subscription agreement with you - the publisher of the content - which will then grant them unlimited access to the service until they cancel. Most subscriptions are monthly subscriptions which renew automatically until cancelled by the viewer. SVOD examples that you may know of include Netflix, Hulu, Disney+ and HBO.
Here are some of the features included in Lightcast's SVOD service:
Central Multi-Platform Subscriber System: seamless integration of SVOD on all your publishing platforms. Subscribers sign up only once and have access to your content across all publishing platforms.
Custom-branded Subscriber Registration page: for your viewers to register for your subscription. Check out our Demo Subscriber Registration Page at https://subsdemo.lightcast.com/
Payment Processing Service: use Lightcast EasyPay or any payment provider you would like us to integrate.
Move content in and out of your subscription any time via your Lightcast Media Cloud.
Self-managed Subscriber Accounts: for subscribers to manage and update their subscription.
Subscriber Database & Admin Account: see how many subscribers you have, view your subscription revenue, make payouts, export subscriber data, and much more.
Where can you have SVOD integrated?
1. On Your Web App and/or Website
2. On Your Mobile Apps
3. On Your TV Apps
Basically everywhere, except on social media. There is no way for you as the content owner and publisher to monetize your content on the major Social Networks and Video Portals. Instead they allow you to publish to their websites, but monetize your content with advertising for their own business revenue (but as a trade-of, they cover their own bandwidth cost).
