Is it possible to receive a copy of the TV App Code or have it transferred to a third-party developer account?

Apps and their contents can only be transferred between accounts within the Lightcast Platform for compatibility, policy and copyright permission. If you have a Lightcast Account with Media Cloud OVP and App Framework Management System, and we receive a permission letter from the current publisher, then we can make the transfers to your new Lightcast Account where you can continue to manage and publish all apps, contents, navigation structures, metadata and monetization products in real-time across all app stores and platforms.

Please find below a more detailed overview why transferring Apps developed by Lightcast cannot be transferred to a third-party developer account:

1. Unless specified otherwise by Client and written contract, Lightcast always uses its proprietary SDKs and extensive template frameworks for each mobile or TV app platform. These unique SKDs are proprietary technology of  Lightcast.com and cannot be copied or re-used by third-parties.

2. Furthermore the code of our proprietary SDKs only works with the LightcastOVP and our unique, secure and encrypted feeds. Lightcast.com's proprietary app templates and SDKs are useless to other OVPs or developers when using feeds from sources other than the LightcastOVP.

3. As a result,  Lightcast.com does not charge its Clients for the programming of code, which would result in much higher development costs to our Clients, but only for setup of Apps within our SDK framework.

4. Even in cases where Clients order custom coded mobile apps or TV apps, the jobs have to be paid in full in order to acquire and own the code. This may require to pay up for discounts or sponsorships received during the order process, or on the initial payment, at the time when a Client wants to acquire ownership of the code of custom-programmed apps or websites.

What are the advantages of having mobile and TV apps developed on the Lightcast.com SDKs and frameworks?

1. Speed: time to market can be a “make or break” for any new media venture. Having apps developed on Lightcast.com’s template frameworks and SDKs allows to save time - often many months of custom programming of code “from scratch”.

2. Cost Savings: for the budget-conscious nothing works better than having to only pay for the setup of apps, instead of for the programming of app templates. Since we already have an enormously expansive and highly developed template framework, there is no reason for why our Clients would have to pay for the development of the same. We are happy to sell custom programmed jobs, working on building your own proprietary code, but such projects require multiples of the budget you need if you only have to pay for the setup/development of apps based on our existing template frameworks and code.  Even if you decided to have custom programmed app code built later on in order to own that code, it is still recommendable to get started with the less expensive setup with our existing template framework initially.

3. Flexibility and features: Lightcast.com’s proprietary SDKs and template frameworks are extensive and offer a vast variety of features to be added on over time without having to invest huge amounts to “reinvent the wheel”.
