Is Lightcast EasyPay charging subscribers for overdue invoices from previous months?
Lightcast EasyPay won't charge subscribers for overdue invoices from previous months. If a payment fails multiple times within a payment period (within a month), subscribers won't have access anymore to the content unless they resolve the payment issue by updating or changing their payment method. If subscribers have more than 1 unpaid invoice, and they resolve the payment issue in their Lightcast EasyPay account, only the invoice from the current payment period will have to be paid so they gain access to the content again. Since they didn't have access to the content during previous months for which the payment failed, we won't charge retroactively for these months.
For example if a subscriber has 4 unpaid invoices, it would not be fair to the subscriber to charge for all 4 unpaid invoices due to the reason that s/he didn't have access to the content during those months for which the payment failed. Also the payment gateway and credit card company might think its fraud if the same amount would be charged 4 times within a matter of minutes and would immediately block the credit card of the user.
Another reason is that the user doesn't have a long-term contract (e.g. a 12-month contract) with the publisher. Subscriptions are month-to-month similar to a Netflix membership. If a payment doesn't go through for a month, access is restricted until the payment goes through again.
