Tips Of The Week

Linear Streaming

We're back with another tip on Live Streaming!  This week's topic is Linear Streaming and there are three types of linear streams: Ingested Linear Streams, Non-scheduled "VOD-to-LIVE" linear loops and scheduled 24/7 streams setup with Lightcast's 24/7 Cloud Scheduler and Playout System. Let’s talk about Ingesting Linear Streams today, and look into VOD-to-LIVE and the Cloud Scheduler during the upcoming following weeks.

Here is a step-by-step introduction on how to setup your linear stream:

Turn one of your Live Event Channels into a Linear Stream Channel. See how:

Ingest your linear stream (24/7 stream) into the Lightcast CDN by pointing your Live Streaming Encoder to a Lightcast CDN SuperPOP (Access Point) as well as adding the unique Stream Key of your Linear Stream Channel into your Encoder.

To ensure that your viewers will get an uninterrupted stream, regardless of their internet connection speed, we recommend to ingest multiple-bitrates, provided your upstream bandwidth at your streaming location can handle it. Or just send Lightcast a single-bitrate stream and we transrate your stream into multiple bitrates for you.

Note that both the cloud-transmuxing of your ingested bitrates into a bitrate-adaptive stream, as well as cloud-transrating of your high-quality ingestion into multiple lower bitrate streams, has to be ordered with Customer Care.

If you would like to deliver your linear stream to all your connected apps, such as the Web App, Mobile Apps and TV Apps, simply add the Linear Stream Channel to your Apps using the App Builder. See how: https://player.lightcast.com/ykDM2YTN
