[Player Configurator](https://help.dev.lightcast.com/media-player#player-configurator) # Sub-Channels Last week we explained the magic about Media Groups and how they can be used to sub-categorize your media content. ? This week we would like to show you another way of grouping videos by topics or themes: The Sub-Channels Managers. What is the difference between Media Groups and Sub-Channels and which one should you use?   Similar to Media Groups (which serve as tags to videos), the Sub-Channels Manager allows you to group videos by topics or themes within a Channel. It is designed to create and manage sub-categories for your publishing properties such as your Roku App, allowing you to further sub-divide your media content and to add an additional navigation tier within your publishing properties. The difference is that the assignment of videos to a Sub-Channel is exclusive to the Sub-Channel, while Media Groups serve as a cross-channel video tagging system. E.g. if a video is assigned to multiple VOD Channels, and that video is part of one Media Group, this particular Media Group will appear under all Channels the video is assigned to.   Not so with Sub-Channels: the integration of Sub-Channels in apps is not automated and dynamically controlled by assigning videos tagged with a “media-group-tag" to one or multiple VOD Channels. Instead, the integration of Sub-Channels in mobile or OTT Apps is hard-coded.
