Facebook Live Streaming allows you to stream your live events simultaneously to your Facebook page in addition to all your publishing properties, such as your own websites, mobile apps, and ConnectedTV Channels.
That said, the Media App is a much better solution for live-streaming to Facebook as it allows to permanently embed the Lightcast Player (with all of its intelligent functionalities such as event announcement and pre-event count-down, social sharing to other social sites, etc.) on the Facebook Page - independent from Facebook’s news feed, thus not subject to being moved down quickly on the “friends” news feed and disappear from their view rapidly (as with everything on Facebook news feeds). And with Facebook's 4 hour limitation for live streams, you might not be able to stream your entire event, or even 24/7 streams.
Furthermore, entire VOD archives can be displayed in custom thumbnail galleries permanently inside the Facebook Media App.
Facebook Live has its limitations and advantages, but permanent display of VOD archives and LIVE Players with count-downs in a dedicated Media App is definitely the superior solution over regular live-streaming on your News Feed via Facebook Live. Here is an example of how a basic Facebook Media App can look like:

Live-Recording of live-streams:
Facebook compresses the quality and bitrate of its live-streams immensely and provides no trimming tools, metadata attachment or custom player thumbnail. Its recordings are not transcoded and only work on regular desktops and browsers. The on-demand files are pushed down immediately in any news feed, thus rendered “non-existent” for most potential viewers.
Utilizing an OVP’s LIVE-to-VOD service with Premium Transcoding is the professional way of publishing on-demand content to Facebook efficiently.
